SBSA News
Hi, and welcome to this page. This will be
the
news for South Bay Soccer. We are presently working
on
the schedule for the 2004 season. Soccer parents, players,
referees,
and future referees should check out the calendar
page for time and date information.
Payment for field use
Due to the budget cutbacks
of the San Luis Coastal
School District, fees will now be charged to the users of the fields as
all of our practice and play is done on fields at the local elementary
and middle schools. The District is charging $2.50
per
hour per field, the hours do add up and South Bay Soccer Association
will
be paying approximately $3000 in fees for playing
fields.
In contrast some of the local Club teams will be using Cuesta College's
fields, their cost is $20 per hour, so ours is a good deal.
However since our cost is rising we have no choice but to pass it
on to the players. Actual cost to the players is
figured
at $6.10 per child assuming 500 players and typical practice times.
Write your School Board and the Superintendent and
complain.
We are being taxed twice for the use of our fields, all of the
field
maintenance is done by volunteers. Three seasons ago
the large field was replanted at no cost to the District.
Volunteers
How do we provide the services for the children of Los
Osos?
Volunteers are how we provide, administrators, coaches,
referees.
We are constantly looking for people to assist us in bringing this
program
to our children. Our board has turned over with several new
faces coming into view. We need are in constant need
of individuals to step forward take over the various duties of the
organization,
if we distribute the work load the overall burden is reduced.
We need additional volunteers to meet the needs of SBSA for the
coming
seasons.
Why the Fees
We get this question often at registration.
The
majority of the fees we collect go to the State organization for
insurance. Fund raising is the major method of obtaining our
working capital.
Of the $60 in registration fees collected, $35 goes to California Youth
Soccer Association South for fees and insurance. Of the
twenty-five
dollars remaining that goes into the account of SBSA for paying
Referees,
field maintenance, purchase new equipment, field rental, and other
operating
expenses. Yes we pay youth referees minimum
wage,
they have a lot of their time invested in that
service.
We will start out the year with approximately $500 in our account and
close
out the tournament season with about $500 left in the
account.
We serve around 500 youths in the area, our budget is about $20,000 on
the season.
