Ginny Monteen

Ginny teaches several classes at KCBX.net, starting seven years ago as a "newbie nanny," assisting in classes at what was then called SLOnet.

Born in Chicago, Ginny worked at four universities and colleges in news media and publications in Minnesota, Colorado and California. When computers hit the publications world, a desktop revolution occurred. Ginny rode that change at Cal Poly as Editor of the university's major external publication, Cal Poly Today. From the old days of galleys and paste-ups, she learned to produce the publication on the computer and send it electronically to the printer.

The university environment also honed her technical writing skills, taking academic subjects and "translating" them to the public. She uses this skill in her teaching, changing complex topics into understandable lessons. To enhance the learning, she writes detailed handouts for her classes.

Computer training includes various workshops, seminars, and a five-month training intensive in multimedia software in Orange County. A resident of SLO for 30 years, when Ginny gets stuck on the computer, she calls up her son, an engineer and problem solver!
