Highway 101 We generally consider our "backyard" to be bounded on the north by Jolon Road ,and the Fergusson-Nacimiento road and include Limekiln, which is just north of the western terminus of the Fergusson road, on the west, and Bradley and Parkfield on the east. From Bradley to San miguel is 13 miles and depending on whether you stay on the 70mph Hwy 101 or take the "scenic route" through Bradley , can take 15 minutes.. Fom San Miguel to Paso Robles is 7 miles and then a half hour to San Luis Obispo. If you have time, you might consider Highway 25 as an alternative to 101. the directions in the Pelican Network description takes you to King City. You CAN continue south through Indian Valley to San Miguel. Highway 1 From Carmel, there are the usual stops for El Sur Grande ... if you haven't been to the Point Sur Lighthouse, you should in your lifetime. Three miles south of Lucia, look out for Limekiln State Park, loop in and take a half hour walk up either Limekiln Canyon or Hare Canyon. If you can take a couple of hours, go to the kilns and up Hare Canyon. It is really better in the spring, but a bit of exploration might whet your appetite to come back. Just south of Limekiln is the turnoff for the Fergusson-Nacimiento Road. If you choose this option, you will have a choice of driving directly from the Hunter-Liggett gate on G18 through Lockwood to Bradley, or taking Interlake Road (G19) to Paso Robles. If you choose to remain on highway 1, you will pass through Pacific Valley, Gorda, Salmon Creek, and Ragged Point with restaurant and facilities. From Ragged Point, you will drop down to the plateau at San Corpoforo Creek and follow along the newly preserved Hearst property past the elephant seal beaches, San Simeon and Hearst Castle, and into Cambria. You are now about 40 minutes out and will pass Harmony, Cuyucos, and Morro Bay, and arrive in San Luis Obispo. |
