MITCH
WOODS & HIS ROCKET 88s
Mitch
Woods and his Rocket 88s use musicianship, humor, and style to create their
own brand of music, which they call “rock-a-boogie”. Their sound
is rooted in the jump blues of the 1940s, but incorporates swing, boogie-woogie,
and 50s rock-n-roll into the mix. Mitch’s driving piano and energetic
stage presence is supported by Marvin Green (guitar), Vance Ehlers (bass),
Jamie Lease (drums), and Jim Peterson (saxophone). Together, they
create a sound that fuels dance frenzies. “Woods lays down an authentic
50s-vintage rock piano groove, comparable in power and rhythmic nuance
to classic recordings by the young Jerry Lee Lewis.” (Keyboard Magazine).

Mitch
Woods arrived in the San Francisco Bay area in the early 1970s playing
boogie-woogie piano. After working with several bands, he formed
the Rocket 88s in the early 1980s. They have been playing, recording,
and touring the world ever since. The band has produced five albums
with Blind Pig Records, from Steady Date in 1984 to the recent big band
sound of Jump for Joy and the celebration of New Orleans rock’n’roll, Big
Easy Boogie. “Woods rocks the joint with some of the jumpin’est piano
we’ve heard. He sings with smooth ebullience and hammers the piano
keys with the unchecked gaiety of mentors Professor Longhair and Amos Milburn.”
(Downbeat Magazine).
THE CINDERS
The Cinders are an
incendiary dance band composed of a talented quartet of experienced blues
musicians. The band includes Dorian Michael (guitar), Brett Hoover
(vocals), Dean Giles (drums), and Ken Hustad (bass). The band is
notable for an authentic blues sound that is emotionally rooted in circa
1960’s Chicago.
