Andrew
"JR. BOY" Jones
As
the emcee says on the Jr. Boy Live CD, “There are a few things hotter than
a Texas summer night and you're gettin’ ready to witness one.” Guitarist,
songwriter, and singer Andrew “Jr. Boy” Jones began working professionally
at age 16 with Freddie King’s band, the Thunderbirds, and contributed to
King's Larger than Life LP. In the 1970s and through most of the
80s, he played guitar with a variety of Dallas-area vocalists, including
Bobby Patterson, Johnnie Taylor, and Charlie Robertson. In the late
80s, he moved to California where he performed and toured with Katie Webster
and Charlie Musselwhite. He is the guitarist on Webster’s critically
acclaimed Swamp Queen Boogie. Jones led the Charlie Musselwhite Band
for eight years and shared in the honor of winning Band of the Year at
the 1995 W.C. Handy Awards. He recorded with Musselwhite on Ace of
Hearts, In My Time, and Signature.
In the mid-90s, Jones returned to Texas to form his own blues band. He has recorded four CDs, including I Need Time (1997), Watch What You Say (1998), Mr. Domestic (2001), and Jr. Boy Live (2005); and has received a W. C. Handy Award nomination for his guitar playing. He is backed by Chris Jones on bass, Big Bo Richardson on drums, and John Street on keyboards. This high energy, Texas style blues is designed for dancing.
Blues DeVille
Blues DeVille plays
traditional Delta blues, Chicago blues, Texas boogie and R&B-funk.
The band provides a musical platform for dancers to glide on and incorporates
improvisation and jazz-like interaction. Blues DeVille has a distinctive
sound that comes across in cover tunes while still and preserving the original
vibe of the song. Band members include Steve Wright (vocals, trumpet,
harmonica), Larry Curtis (guitar), John Paul Stinson (drums), Gordon Jennings
(bass), and Scott Klynas (keyboard).
VOLUNTEER
Your Blues Society
is run entirely by volunteers. Besides a sense of accomplishment, volunteers
get into the shows for free and receive a couple free drink tickets.
We could use your help, so call 541-7930 (our voice mail number) and volunteer
to work a shift at the show.
