TERRY EVANS.  Soul and blues singer Terry Evans is famous for his impressive vocal and emotional range.  Best known for his decades long collaboration with Ry Cooder, Evans has been touring internationally with his own band for the past ten years.

Terry Evans’ musical career began at church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in the heart of the Delta.  As a young person, he sang gospel in the church choir and wasn’t allowed to sing the “rough stuff” like rhythm and blues.  However, Terry was secretly listening to performers like Elmore James, Little Walter, Albert King, and B.B. King when he decided that he wanted to be a soul singer.

In the 1960s, Terry toured the South with an a cappella group called The Knights.  At the age of 22, he headed West to Los Angeles where he picked up the guitar and started writing songs.  He was successful as a professional songwriter, but his primary musical career was as a studio session vocalist, providing soulful background on albums by John Fogarty, Ry Cooder, Joan Armatrading, John Lee Hooker, Boz Scaggs, Maria Muldaur, and others.

Evans teamed up with Bobby King in the early 1970s and they toured clubs and festivals around the country as a soul duo.  In 1976, he sang on Ry Cooder’s “Chicken Skin Music” recording.  This started a relationship that has included recording and touring with Cooder for over a decade.  In addition to his work with other artists, Terry has recorded two albums with Bobby King and seven albums on his own.  His most recent recording is Fire in the Feeling (2005, Valley Entertainment). The band's previous release Mississippi Magic was nominated for a WC Handy award for “Best Soul Blues Album of the Year” in 2002.  Listen to Evans at his website (http://www.terryevansmusic.com).

THE INSOMNIACS.  The Insomniacs are a Portland-based Jump Blues band who never fail to fill the dance floor thanks to their unique blend of jump, blues, and roots rock & roll.  The band is fronted by 25-year-old Vyasa Dodson.  His song writing, guitar playing and vocal styling reflect classic blues traditions viewed though the eyes of a youthful, energetic performer.  He is joined by Dean Mueller on bass, Alex Shakeri on keyboards and Dave Melyan on drums.  The Insomniacs recently released a new CD, Left Coast Blues (Delta Groove, 2007).  For soundclips, visit their website (http://www.insomniacsblues.com).

VOLUNTEER. Your Blues Society is run entirely by volunteers. Besides a sense of accomplishment, volunteers get into the shows for free and receive a couple free drink tickets.  We could use your help, so call 541-7930 (our voice mail number) and volunteer to work a shift at the show.
