SHOW REVIEW
Swingshift
Swingshift is a five piece band playing a combination of American music ranging from 40's style swing and rock in the T-bone Walker and Louis Jordan styles, to 50's and 60's style blues from Chicago, Texas and Louisiana, to the 80's and 90's west coast style of blues/jazz and swinging, house rockin' tunes. They offer the ideal combination of variety, professionalism, and musicianship.
The band, with more than eighty years of musical experience between them. delivers great performances night after night. as they have over the last twenty to thirty years.
The founders of the band are Harrison Weese (vocals and harmonica), Gary Williams (bass), and Peter Brown (guitar). The great musicians Kenny 'Blue' Ray and Lance Dickerson on guitar and drums round out the five-piece band. This is probably the best line-up playing around the Bay Area today with its' combination of great rhythm and guitar work complemented by the fabulous vocals of Harrison. (Swingshift may occasionally include a horn section or a keyboard).
Many bands today feature loud, fast, lots-of-notes styles that work well in many venues. Swingshift does not adhere to this school of music however. They come from the "less is more" school of music where tone, phrasing, and taste are considered important qualities. The Swingshift style of music seems more compatible with people who want to listen, dance, and socialize.
As you would expect from this class of professional, Swingsilift arrives
on time, loves to play music, is exciting and authentic, at reasonable
volumes, with professional appearance. You will not see large stacks of
amplifiers, a range of foot pedals, and racks of sound altering equipment
at a Swingshift show. What you will see is vintage amplifiers and instruments,
hands and heart, and you win hear the undeniably great vocals of Mr. Harrison
Weese.
Black
Cat Bone
Black Cat Bone is a trio that performs traditional Texas/Chicago style Blues. The bond consists of guitarist/lead singer Joe Wilkins, a upright and electric playing Bassist Jon Loomis and percussionist Karen Garman. Black Cat Bone is a trio that creates high energy Blues that attracts dancers and audiences of all ages!
Singer/guitarist Joe Wilkins has been playing the Blues for the past decade with various bands from Nebraska to California. Influences from the likes of Albert King, Freddy King, and Johnny Winter are evident in his guitar work and combine with his strong vocals for a powerful performance. Bassist Jon Loomis created his unique bass style while touring Europe and refined it on the road with Lee Rocker. Rhythm mistress, Karen Garman, maintains the catchy Blues beat for Black Cat Bone. Her creative percussions compliment the trio perfectly. Jon's solid, groovy bass lines lock in with Karen's exploding drum beats to form a tight back drop for Wilkins'vocal and guitar phrases.
Black Cat Bone aims to get people to jump up out of their seats and
get onto the dance floor. Black Cat Bone is currently working on their
first full length CD "Born Blind."
